NEW FOUNDATIONS

Installation shots of my newest embroidery work shown in New Foundations - curated by Quinton Maldonado and myself.
I am thrilled about the direction that my work is going and I am so excited to be sharing these images for the very first time! This show was the first exhibition of my new work and I couldn’t have hoped for anything better. I feel incredibly grateful for the peers and artists that I am able to work with on a daily basis to create wonderful things.

Here is a bit about the project that I have been spending the last few months working on (and, trust me, it’s nowhere near close to being done - in a good way!) -
This work attempts to deconstruct the idea of home through documentary photography of architectural spaces. It conveys senses of investment and loss through the use of embroidery. Complex layers of thread physically carry the narrative of time invested in various homes throughout my lifetime, each resulting in an empty architectural space due to a decomposition of emotional ties. I have combined a nostalgic medium with the experience of building and losing connections to physical spaces in an attempt to convey my association with the hand-made and its relationship to architecture and feelings of home. These are quiet and intimate depictions of places that held emotional abundance, but are now seen as remnants of once-sacred places.
